Barista Basics
This training programme is ideal for people entering or working in the hospitality industry who are interested in learning the skills of a barista. It is a comprehensive introduction to the principles and rules of coffee making. Topics include coffee bean harvesting, storage and handling and the preparation and presentation of espressos and other coffees in a hospitality setting.

This training programme was developed from the following NZQA standards:
- Unit 17284, Demonstrate knowledge of coffee origin and production
- Unit 17285, Demonstrate knowledge of commercial espresso coffee equipment and prepare espresso beverages under supervision
- Unit 17286, Prepare and present pressed coffee for service
- Unit 17287, Prepare and present filtered coffee for service
- Unit 17288, Prepare and present espresso beverages for service
It contains six interactive modules, which are divided into smaller topics. Each module closes with a formative quiz and a printable summary of the module’s content.

This training is for people working or preparing to work in the hospitality industry in businesses that prepare and serve coffee. No previous academic qualification is necessary.

The programme is structured so that you can move through the materials at your own pace within the allowed time frame. There are six modules, which are further divided into topics. Each module should take you approximately 40 minutes. The estimated time to complete the content is 5–6 hours.
